Designer and developer — how to live together in harmony?

As far as UX is concerned, developer and designer collaborations are unavoidable. After all, every project has to be implemented by someone. And creating a digital product without a project is quite a tough job.

As a matter of fact, designers and developers need one another. But does that mean collaboration is always easy? It may be, but it all depends on the people. Understanding each other and harmonizing your work takes effort on both sides. Sometimes, it is hard. However, it’s definitely worthwhile. And in this article, we will try to convince you of that and share a few tips about this form of cooperation.

Why do they need each other?

They can definitely count on a better pace of work. When one person tries to do everything, it can take a long time and the results can still be mediocre. When everyone deals with the areas in which they specialize, work can be much more dynamic and effective.

Let’s end the myth that one person can do everything.

The developer and designer can support and complement one another’s skills by working together. Developers often lack creativity, which is a typical feature for designers, as well as a good knowledge of graphic programs. By working with a designer, a developer is able to observe their work and learn more about the graphic world. Designers, in turn, can learn how to implement projects and understand the limitations of technologies that programmers must face.

The UX industry is mostly based on the collaboration of very different people. It can be difficult, but it is worth looking at the benefits and how much they can learn. And also, how they can enrich their projects.

How to care about good cooperation?

Probably no one will be surprised that the first thing we will talk about is good communication. Without it, there is no chance of successful cooperation. You have to have the ability to communicate well and explain things the other person doesn’t understand. Patience is important in all of this. Remember that just because you can and know something does not mean that it will be just as easy for others.

Respect is extremely important in communication. We are talking about respect to one another and each other’s work. No task is less important than the other. Both the work of a designer and a programmer are equally needed. It’s not acceptable to feel superior and disrespectful to the other person. Every relationship should be based on respect. Collaboration in the UX industry is no exception.

Let’s just play to one goal.

The aim of each project is customer satisfaction. And this is the main goal to think about when working on both design and implementation. The point is to create a valuable product that will meet your customer’s expectations and project assumptions.

As a team, people create the product together, and they all have responsibility for the final look and feel of the product. Therefore, let’s not try to outdo each other, or show which work is more valuable. Communication, respect, and playing to the same goal are important.

Let’s learn from each other and help one another.

Nobody can lose here. We can only gain.
